HOBART — Overnight on October 12, 20 activists staged a protest against logging operations in the Florentine Valley. The protest was organised by environment group Still Wild Still Threatened.

Gunns' Ltd contractors have recently begun logging. So far, nine hectares of the 40-hectare area have been logged. The protesters were asked to leave by police, and eventually did so, with one protester remaining in a tree until later lowered down by rope. There were no arrests.

The protest took place about four kilometres from the Florentine Blockade — which maintained a presence of 10 activists during the recent protest — which soon celebrates its second anniversary.

Supporters are encouraged to visit the Florentine Valley and the activists camped there.
