Poem: Cleaning Up Eveleigh Street

Issue

Cleaning Up Eveleigh Street

White cirrus above crumbling street
Aboriginal mural manifested along brick wall
over a train line, locals drinking on their verandas on busted seats
garbage piled bursting out green bins feeding a moody fire — Zero farsightedness beneath bare light-bulbs
Examined by State Cabinet loaded with Olympic officials
and news snatchers, police radios, Attorney-General, Crimes Tribunal
Discrimination Board payola, secret natter with Community Justice
Centres and South Sydney Real Estate Developers.
Sixty five million eyes anchored for any racist slip
Howard's men, Prime Minister diadem, paper shredding at 1am
in the Towards 2000 Mill right of centre.
