Thousands of people protested for refugee rights at Palm Sunday rallies in cities and rural towns across the country on April 9. In Sydney, grandparents to young children marched with numerous groups including church organisations, Mums for Refugees, Doctors for Refugees, Refugee Action Coalition, Amnesty, the Greens, Socialist Alliance and a vibrant #FreeSaeed contingent among others.

As refugees and asylum seekers endure their fourth year of detention in Nauru and Manus Island detention centres, rallies rejected the US refugee deal and called on the government to bring them here and give refugees permanent residency.
