Petition support Gaza

March 7, 2009
Issue

More than 4000 signatures on a petition in support of Gaza were handed over to ALP federal MP Julia Irwin outside her Cecil Hills office on March 7. They were collected over the last two months. Irwin has pledged to table the petition in parliament.

Irwin, who heads the Senate petitions commission, was the only ALP MP to speak out against Israel's massacre in Gaza earlier this year.

The petition, initiated by the Gaza Defence Committee, demands that the Australian government condemn Israel's siege and invasion of Gaza, and suspend all economic, cultural, diplomatic and military ties Israel until the economic blockade of the Gaza Strip is lifted.
