Petition on Libyan sanctions

A Hands off Libya committee has been formed in Australia in response to the developing military threats against Libya by the US and its allies.

On March 31 the UN Security Council passed a resolution imposing an air, arms and diplomatic embargo on Libya until two Libyan nationals accused of bombing the Pan Am jet involved in the Lockerbie disaster are handed over to British authorities. The embargo came into effect on April 15.

Libya has also been threatened by the US with military action. Ironically, April 15 was the sixth anniversary of the Reagan administration's bombing of Tripoli and Benghazi, which killed 38 people and wounded hundreds.

The Hands Off Libya Committee has initiated a petition which calls for all sanctions against Libya to be lifted and for the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry, acceptable to all parties, to investigate the Lockerbie disaster and related incidents.

For more information or copies of the petition write to Hands off Libya committee, PO Box 455, Brunswick, 3056.
