Palestinian official: Venezuela is 'our ‬most important ally‭'

Under late former president Hugo Chavez,‭ ‬Venezuela emerged as one of the most vocal champions of Palestine solidarity.

Palestinian Authority‭ (‬PA‭) ‬foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki has described Venezuela as‭ ‬“Palestine's most important ally‭”‬,‭ ‬Venezuelanalysis.com said on May‭ ‬19.‭ ‬Al-Maliki made the comments while in Caracas for bilateral talks with‭ ‬Venezuela's socialist government.

‭“‬It's a country that gives without asking for anything in return,‭”‬ al-Maliki said.‭ ‬Venezuelan foreign minister Delcy Rodriguez responded that Venezuela was‭ ‬“ready at any moment to throw itself into the battle for‭ [‬Palestinian‭] ‬independence and sovereignty.‭”

Under the leadership of the late former president Hugo Chavez and his successor Nicolas Maduro,‭ ‬Venezuela has emerged as one of the most vocal champions of Palestine solidarity.‭

In recent years,‭ ‬the South American nation has led the diplomatic charge against Israeli occupation and apartheid.‭ ‬It has forged close diplomatic and economic ties with the PA,‭ ‬including oil deals,‭ ‬emergency aid and scholarships for Palestinian medical students.
