PALESTINE: 4172 killed in latest intifada

According to a report issued on October 24 by the Palestinian National Information Centre, 4172 Palestinians have been killed and 8435 have been wounded in the five years since the beginning of the Al Aqsa intifada. Of those killed, 783 were children, 269 were women and 844 were students and teachers. According to the report, 732 of those killed died as a result of Israeli air bombings. During the same period, 59 Palestinians were killed by settlers. The number of prisoners has now reached 8600. During the five-year period, Israel has completely or partially destroyed 71, 470 houses and 645 public buildings. In addition, 12 universities and schools have been forced to close due to the illegal Israeli occupation, and 316 schools and education institutions have sustained bombardment by the Israeli military or have been commandeered by Israeli occupation troops.
