Curtin University, under the pine trees near Robertson Library
Join us to round off a successful year of campaigning for our education! The Festival Against Fees will be held at Curtin, and will feature bands, free food, activities and stalls.
Education Minister Chris Pyne has his heart set on screwing students. His dreams for higher education involve:
- deregulating fees- many will soar to $100 000 per degree
- increasing interests rates on fees (this also means women will end up paying roughly 30% more for their degrees)
- withdrawing 20% government funding to HECS
- massive handouts to private universities and for-profit colleges
It's predicted that the major universities will make billions in profit if these changes go through. Students, however, will lose out. Like students in America, we'll be forced out of the best universities and will be crippled with debt repayments for our entire lives.
Students have already caused some major headaches for the Liberals. Since the very successful education campaign began, opposition to the deregulation of fees has risen from 43% to 70%, and it looks as if we could defeat this historic attack.
Join us for the last major event of the campaign this year, and to stand up for our education!
