New SA anti-worker laws

ADELAIDE — SA industrial affairs minister Dean Brown has announced fast-track implementation of new unfair dismissal laws which will affect over half of state workers. From July 1, small business employers with fewer than 15 staff will be able to sack workers with less than 12 months' service, without reason.

The change has been introduced as a "regulation" rather than as part of amended industrial legislation to be debated in parliament. The SA United Trades and Labour Council will hold a lunchtime protest against the change at 12.15pm on June 25, at 45 Pirie Street.
