New uranium mine opposed

Issue 

DARWIN — A protest against a new uranium mine in Kakadu National Park was held outside the Northern Territory parliament on April 26, to mark the expiry of the five-year moratorium on mining company negotiations with the traditional owners of the Koongarra mine site area. The French mining giant Areva is making renewed efforts to gain approval for the development of the site, which is located 30 kilometres south of the Ranger mine.
