This tape is a refreshing collection of songs penned by Monsour, well known for his passionate political lyrics, accompanied by Sue Ferres on harmonies and violin. The tape meanders through diverse images and themes of social justice and personal relationships.
The song "Hard Days" reflects times of struggle and the essence of the long haul: "See through all these days of permanence".
"The Promised Land" is an inspiring song which says that freedom of the heart can be nurtured, but more important freedoms are yet to be won. "Now the hiding is over, step into the sun, for tomorrow a change it will come."
Monsour's urgent guitar and Ferres' bitter-sweet violin create a profound melodic sound, free of high-tech effects, producing a raw but professional response from the compositions. The tape moves with commitment and energy, a great slice of local talent and a friendly price of $5.
Hazed was launched at Green Left Weekly's Green It Up last week to a supportive crowd of 150 people. Monsour and Ferres were accompanied by Kate Turner on vocals and flute.
