By Pip Hinman

MELBOURNE — The National Greens are standing a candidate in Victoria: Rebecca Wigney, a 23-year-old graduate in biological sciences, in the eastern suburbs federal seat of Latrobe.

Greens (WA) Senator Christabel Chamarette and independent Senator Janet Powell opened the Greens' campaign office in Boronia on February 24.

The National Greens are standing on a platform which includes: a job creating National Employment Fund; the promotion of and government support for clean, green industries; government priorities to foster labour-intensive small business; "New Protectionism", using tariffs to aid high value added protection in Australia; a revamp of the taxation system towards taxing the wealthy, energy use and reducing poverty; a Guaranteed Adequate Income scheme to replace pensions, benefits and allowances; a national coastal protection plan; the transfer of logging from native forests to plantations; a national Biodiversity Act to protect wildlife and ecosystems; the provision of fair, high quality public health and education services.
