At least 100 people attended the Palestine: Global Perspective conference, held at the Victorian State Library on March 29.

Speakers included local Muslim clerics Sheikh Riad Galil and Sheikh Mohammed Omran, Federation of Muslim Students and Youth Victorian president Mohammad Helmy and Asem Judeh from the Palestinian Community of Australia (Victoria). Australian Democrats leader Senator Lyn Allison also addressed the conference.

The conference launched the Australia-Muslim Palestine Committee which will focus "on awareness and action that pours into the community and slowly brings about a change in public opinion". The AMPC intends to work with other pro-Palestine groups, but with the specific aim of organising more support for Palestine among Australian Muslims. For more information, phone 0415 802 780.
