Musical freedom fighter Ani Di Franco to headline Philadelphia Folk Festival

Issue

BY BILL NEVINS

Ani Di Franco, who with a handful of US celebrities and musicians, has stood up bravely against the Bush regime's war policies and its intimidation of dissidents, will be the headline performer at the 42nd annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, August 22-24.

In choosing Di Franco and longtime political protest singer Odetta as the stars of this year's festival, the Philly Folk Fest has taken a strong stand against the war-mongering, anti-free speech and the anti-humanity of the Bush regime.

Always a progressive venue, both musically and politically, the Philly Folk Fest has featured such dissident singers as Steve Earle, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Tom Paxton and dozens more over the decades.

Each year, thousands of music lovers flock to Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia, for three days of fun, song and consciousness. This year's show looks to be the best ever!
