Media award

SYDNEY — An article published in Green Left Weekly has made journalist Deborah Singerman a finalist in the NSW Youth Advisory Council's first annual Youth Media Awards.

The awards are designed to encourage reporting that highlights the aspirations, achievements and needs of young people. They are for work that appeared in print or electronic media between June 30, 1991, and June 30, 1992.

Singerman's article was entered in the Feature, Metropolitan Print category. Titled "Out of the closet and into the classroom", it profiled the Gay and Lesbian Teachers and Students organisation. It was published in the November 27 issue of Green Left.

Winners in each category will be announced at a presentation lunch on December 9.
