March for Croatia

MELBOURNE — In an impressive community action, an estimated 7000 supporters of Croatian independence marched through the city on November 17. The Sunday afternoon action climaxed in a rally outside parliament. The demonstrators called on the federal government to act on the resolution passed unanimously in the House of Representatives on November 13.

The non-binding resolution deplores the continued military attack on Croatia by the Serbian regime and notes that the Belgrade government can no longer claim to represent the former Yugoslav federation. It calls on the Australian government to refuse to recognise the authority of the Yugoslav ambassador. The resolution, however, fails to call for the immediate recognition of the independence of Croatia and Slovenia.
