About 300 attended a protest in Mackay on March 22, and listened to a range of speakers from the community including Laurie Horgan (secretary of the Mackay

Branch of QCTU) and Tim Mulherin the state labour member, Green Left Weekly journalist Shane Hopkinson and street press writer Serenity Goodhand as well as Drew Sullivan, a local high school student. The students are keen to take part in some way in the next student strike.

After the speakers, an upbeat crowd marched through the heart Mackay, accompanied by vigorous chants and drumming. The marchers then returned to the council park where there was a number of local artists who performed.

All expressed the view that the day was a success and were keen to meet and find further ways to participate
