Looking Out: Reflection's hard truth

Reflection's hard truth

By Brandon Astor Jones

"The violence of today's society has little to do with the shunning of God and much more to do with a glorification of guns, [intolerance] and ... a lack of parental supervision." — Jeff Joseph

Yes! You are the coward mother, and father
How dare you try to make God responsible
for the training that you never started.
Alas, sight of your own evil is impossible
While you mourn loudly, the dearly departed
Your self-righteous "Why?", is a fraud-colossal
Oh what hypocrisy! You are broken-hearted
In Columbine's mirror, your image is discernible
REFLECTION'S HARD TRUTH
The words of Jeff Joseph inspired me to write this poem. His letter was published in the June 22 Atlanta Constitution.

I was equally impressed with letter writer Sanjay Lal, who wrote, "The idea that the simplistic, divisive and intellectually unsatisfying theology of conservative Christianity is what will save us from more Littletons is as laughable as it is dangerous".

It is my opinion that Joseph's and Lal's letters should have been front page news. They wrote the hard truth.
