Latrobe cuts student representation

Issue

The women's room, and the women's, Indigenous and queer officer positions will not exist next year at the Bendigo campus of Latrobe University.

The Bendigo campus student association board decided to cut the three (out of 10) student representation positions in response to the impact of "voluntary student unionism" (VSU).

Dori Ellington, the Latrobe University women's officer at Bendigo, told Green Left Weekly, "It is ridiculous really. They are saying that it is due to lack of funding. However, these positions are unpaid and, for the most part, remain vacant. I believe it is just a scheme that falls into the traps of VSU and a more centralised running of universities."
