Justice for Denzel

Protesters gathered outside the Queensland State Executive on December 30, angry at yet another incident of violence against an Aboriginal child in the custody of the state.

Denzel, an 11 year old boy, had been severely bashed in juvenile detention. His family is demanding an urgent inquiry into the state brutality, and that Denzel be released back to them and to safety.

Denzel's family told the protest that they were still in the dark about what happened to Denzel and they do not know his current medical state.

Sam Watson, a Murri activist and community leader, described the ongoing brutalisation of the Aboriginal community within correctional facilities. He slammed the state for removing young people from their families and culture, saying that this meant removing any chance of community healing.

Denzel's family and supporters have vowed to continue the fight for justice and will not stop until Denzel is released to his family and those responsible for this miscarriage of justice be brought to account.
