Justice For Ark

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - 09:00

Ark Tribe is a construction worker from South Australia facing six months in jail. He has been charged with not attending an interview with the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC).

Ark was working on the Flinders University site in Adelaide. Conditions were so bad that workers drew up a petition calling for safety improvements, on a handtowel. It took an intervention by the union and the state government safety regulator to get the most pressing problems fixed and finally, after several days, things began to get back on track and it’s Ark Tribe who ‘s facing 6 months jail

The ABCC undermines worker safety and takes away the rights of accused works by refusing them the right to silence during interviews nor the right to choose their own lawyer. But worse if they fail to speak to the ABCC they can face up to 6 months prison and significant fines

Comrade's, its finally happening, a man whose only crime was refusing to talk and dob in his fellow workers to the Howard Government anti-Union watchdog. I believe that this is a bloody disgrace. Those who agree with me, join me, the CFMEU and other Unions on the 15th of June at 8:30 in the morning to stand tall with Ark (dont forget to invite your progressive friend)
