Jobless groups plan national link

By Ian Jamieson

ROSEBERY, Tas — Unemployed groups took some steps towards national liaison in a teleconference on July 31.

The link, involving groups from South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, NSW and Queensland, would be the most extensive of its kind for many years.

The groups hope to hold a national conference, probably in Canberra, towards the end of this year. They will be seeking trade union support and involvement in the conference. The federal elections, due in 1993, would be an important focus of the gathering.

There will be a further teleconference on the evening of the federal budget to discuss a united response, and the Canberra group is planning action outside federal parliament on budget night.

The groups hope to produce a national newsletter to share information and help coordinate activities.
