ADELAIDE — Jason Porter died in a motorbike accident on December 31, while travelling through Indonesia. Jason, aged 23, was an activist who travelled extensively throughout the Third World. An internationalist, Jason was a supporter of Green Left Weekly and active in many campaigns and organisations. He will be missed by his family, his many friends and his lover Beka. His parents wrote: "You had a vision our son, to attempt to make this earth a better place for all people. We spoke to you for many hours about your hopes and aspirations. We are so proud of all that you have achieved, that you were prepared to stand up for what you so passionately believed in. We know you would say, I have seen and done a great deal Mum and Dad, do not be sad, but my message is to continue the struggle to end oppression, so that all people may live with dignity in freedom. Jason, you are an inspiration to us all. Rest easy our love, in the knowledge that you made a difference, in so many people's lives. All our love. Mum and Dad." Our memories of his love of life, his spirit and his energy will serve us well as we continue the struggle to which Jason devoted his life.
