IWD Collective meetings begin

By Lynda Hansen

BRISBANE — The International Women's Day Collective has resumed meetings to organise this year's IWD activities on March 6. With continuing cuts to child-care and women's health services, recent attacks on abortion rights in the ACT and the possibility of a GST, it is clear that the struggle for equality is as important as ever.

Activities planned which include a rally and march ending in a speak-out. In the evening, a huge dance is planned to showcase some of Brisbane's most innovative women performers.

Jenny Mays, IWD Collective member, told Green Left Weekly: "The idea of the collective and its activities is to bring an increased awareness and understanding of women's struggles against inequality, oppression and exploitation. We want to effect change through collective action."

IWD meetings are held every Monday night, 6.30pm, at the TLC building, 2nd floor, 16 Peel St, South Brisbane. Phone Lynda on 3252 5586 or Ruth on 2354 0565.
