This organising meeting is to explore the possibility of a mini-campaign in the lead-up to the Labor Party's national conference (held in Adelaide, for the first time since 1979, from July 26th-28th).
We want Labor to finally commit to raising Newstart Allowance, which at $269 per week, is $160 per week below the poverty-line.
We even thought of a slogan, one Labor Party might like: "It's Time", a reference to their 1972 election campaign, when Gough Whitlam was elected PM, ending 23 years of conservative rule (fun fact: Newstart has not been raised in real terms in 24 years).
All welcome.
