The environmental campaigning organization ELEMENT will launch its national "It's easy being green" campaign with 10 hours of entertainment featuring 16 of Sydney's best alternative acts, including Insurge and Sub Base Snarl.

"Our aim is to provide sustainable alternatives to over 90% of the goods you would typically find in a supermarket", said the founder of ELEMENT, David West. The group's Sydney branch, for example, is planning a weekend market that provides an environmentally friendly method of grocery shopping, including organic foods, biodegradable household products, recycled clothing, music and books.

The group is also hoping to organise a 12-month tour across Australia demonstrating alternatives to problems like pesticides, fossil fuels, land fill and salinity.

"What we want to end up with is a mobile resource that can visit schools, shopping centres and central malls showing people practical everyday steps that they can take to walk lightly on the earth", said West.

The November 4 benefit, at 61 Regent Street, Surry Hills, will feature Insurge, Sub Base Snarl, Prince Valium, Vapourware, HC11, The Hoax, DJ Skank, Sir Robbo, Edwina Blush and Trevor Brown, DJ Alf, Morganics, Dase Team 5000, DJ Sift, Arran, Philasophagus, Sonic Professor and Antic and Teknic. Street performers, light and laser shows, and free organic food will also be provided, for a price of $20.00.

The gig will also benefit the wildlife rescue group, WIRES, which in NSW responds to over 100,000 calls a year to assist with sick and injured animals.

"With tickets sales moving strongly, ELEMENT realised it was going to raise more funds than we needed. WIRES are a bit strapped financially and so decided to help out", said gig organiser Ben Eadie.

Tickets can be purchased from Red Eye Records in King Street, Newtown, Fish Records in Newtown, Reachin Records in Darlinghurst, BPM Records in Surry Hills, Parade Records in Bondi Beach, and Down Beat Records in Bondi Junction. The gig starts at 8pm and will finish around 6am on November 5.
