NEWCASTLE — Women from the International Women's Day Collective held a vigil in the Hunter Street Mall on February 18 in response to a call by the US National Organisation of Women (NOW) for protests against the atrocities being committed against Muslim and Croatian women by Serbian forces. There are estimates of more than 30,000 cases of rape. The protest also drew attention to the terrorist acts against abortion clinics by US groups such as Operation Rescue as well as the hidden or structural violence endemic in Australian society.
