International Students Solidarity Network launched

MELBOURNE — The launch of the International Students Solidarity Network took place at Swanbourne University on May 20. Speakers included Vannessa Hearman from Action In Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor, Nyah Lynn Shwe from the All Burma Students Democratic Front and Edwin Gozal from the People's Democratic Party in Indonesia.

All speakers addressed the importance of international students getting involved in the solidarity movement in Australia.

Gozal updated participants on the recent political developments in Indonesia. Nyah Lynn Shwe described some of the lessons of the struggle of the pro-democracy movement in Burma, and spoke about the implications of the democratic struggle in Indonesia for the whole region.
