International day of action against Jabiluka mine

Protests against the proposed Jabiluka uranium mine took place in Madrid, Paris, Cologne, Bonn and Osaka on October 20.

In Madrid, representatives from Spain's 300 major environment and nature conservation groups presented a letter of protest to the Australian ambassador. Outside the embassy, protesters unfurled banners, saying "White Australia has a Black History".

In Paris, Friends of the Earth and Resau Sortir du Nucleaire condemned the collaboration of France's Cogema company with Energy Resources of Australia and demanded that Kakadu National Park be placed on the World Heritage in danger list.

Protests were also organised in Cologne and Osaka.

The protests took place on the eve of a visit to Kakadu by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inspection team. The team will determine whether Kakadu National Park should be listed as World Heritage in danger. The team arrives on October 25.
