Indigenous activist to run for Senate

BRISBANE — On March 23, Sam Watson was preselected to lead the Socialist Alliance Senate team for Queensland in the upcoming federal elections.

A life-long campaigner for the rights of Aboriginal and all oppressed people, Watson is a Birrigubba man who has pioneered Aboriginal community programs in law, medicine and housing. Watson is one of the best-known and respected Murri activists in Brisbane.

Watson regularly addresses anti-war, environmental and social justice rallies and forums in Brisbane. He ran for SA in the 2007 federal and 2009 Queensland elections.

Watson is the national Indigenous affairs spokesperson for SA, and a prominent author, playwright and film-maker.
