With the release of the Afghan War Diary by Wikileaks, showing clear war crimes being committed in Afghanistan by the International Security Assistance Force, it is apparent that the war is not for noble causes nor improving the lives of the ordinary Afhans. Link: http://www.wardiary.wikileaks.org
Unfortunately the Australian government wants to commit troops to the war for at least another 2 years and neither of the major political parties have taken a critical stand on the issue. Moreover, 17 Australian soldiers have needlessly lost their lives, 6 being in the last 2 months. More about the lack of debate on the Afghanistan War can be found in this great editorial from last weeks Age newspaper- http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/editorial/leaders-fail-to-make-case-for....
This will be a bigger than usual monthly vigil and we are encouraging everyone to attend. As well as our usual banner and fliers, we will have a giant banner petition to sign and a few speakers (TBC). We are also hoping to have a flier to distribute which will survey the various parties policies on the Afghanistan War and militarism more generally (please let us know if you can help with this).
