Greenhouse pollution

According to Greenpeace, Queensland shale oil developers Suncor Energy and Southern Pacific Petroleum have misled the public and their shareholders by claiming that their planned Stuart shale oil project will reduce the amount of greenhouse pollution in the atmosphere.

According to Greenpeace, the company's annual report shows that shale oil will produce up to 60% more greenhouse pollution per unit of energy produced than conventional petrol. The plant will emit between 6-9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. This will increase Australia's greenhouse pollution levels by between 1.1 and 1.5%.
