Why

GREEN LEFT WEEKLY presents:

After Afrin: What now for northern Syria’s feminist, democratic revolution?

Tuesday, April 17, 6:30 pm (meal from 6 pm), Resistance Centre, Level 5, 407 Swanston Street.

Speakers: HAWZHIN AZEEZ (Kurdish solidarity activist, editor of the The Middle Eastern Feminist via video link from Kobanê) & Dave Holmes - solidarity activist & Socialist Alliance member.

The Turkish invasion and occupation of Afrin, one of the three liberated cantons of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria, raises some fundamental questions. Can this feminist, pluralist, democratic experiment survive? What will Turkey do next? What about the Assad regime, now a clear winner in the brutal 7-year-long civil war? Will the revolution’s tactical military alliance with the United States continue? What can we do in Australia to build solidarity with this inspiring attempt to build a free society?
