Over 150 activists protested at the Yongah Hill detention centre near Northam. This was the first protest for refugee rights at the recently opened refugee prison.

Speakers included Greens senator Scott Ludlam, Serco Watch convenor Colin Penter and academic Caroline Fleay. A particularly moving speech was given by former detainee called Jacob.

Jess McLeod from Curtin RRAN said the Gillard government's adoption of the "Pacific Solution" was a repeat of Howard government policy.
