Bahraini democracy activist Zainab Abdulnabi, representing the Bahraini Australian Youth Movement, delivered an impassioned speech at the end of the Sydney May Day march on May 6, 2012. The head of the nurses' and teachers' trade unions in Bahrain have been jailed for 15 years simply for supporting democracy protests. 3000 workers have been dismissed from their jobs for participating in protests. She urged Australian trade unions, especially education and health unions, to extend solidarity to the movement for democracy in Bahrain, and call on the Australian govt to put political pressure on the US and UK to stop arming the Bahraini regime.
