Green jobs strategy

CANBERRA — Greenpeace launched a strategy for ecologically sustainable job creation on January 31. The strategy focuses on an urban transport strategy for Sydney, a national freight transport strategy, job opportunities in the renewable energy technology sector and plans for a pulp and paper industry that would save jobs and forests.

Greenpeace national liaison officer Rick Humphries said that the "Green Jobs" plan would not only "create vital employment for Australians", but would also improve the balance of payments problem by increasing exports and replacing imports.
