Green It Up finishes '94 with a bang

By Bill Mason

BRISBANE — Green It Up, the weekly alternative cultural event held at the Shamrock Hotel here every Thursday night, finished up for 1994 with a huge end-of-year party on December 1. Green It Up is a fundraiser for Green Left Weekly, sponsored by Resistance.

This year Green It Up celebrates four years of existence, in several venues. During this time it has been a showcase of new Brisbane musical talent, as well as for poetry, and a place of discussion of progressive political causes locally, nationally and around the world.

Green It Up has also staged joint fundraising nights with a variety of other organisations this year, including the Wilderness Society, Aksi (on the theme of East Timor) and HEMP (Help End Marijuana Prohibition).

The end-of-year party featured many of the musicians who have supported Green It Up over the years, including Evan and Adele, Phil Monsour, Hommus, Pat Dempsey, Barb and Annie, Toni Wood and many others.

Green It Up now goes into recess over summer, to resume in March.
