GLW correction

Issue

In the article "Victorian AMWU stewards unanimously back leaders" by Sue Bull (GLW #506) it was reported that: "Dave Harrison, Queensland state secretary told organisers' meetings in that state that the union is prepared to sue the Victorian officials and even take their homes in an effort to recoup money lost in the dispute. The police would also be told that union cars have been stolen if they were not returned."

Concerns have been expressed about the accuracy of the attribution of these comments to Dave Harrison, or whether they were in fact made by other national AMWU officials or other sources within the union unconnected with its national council, or whether these comments were made at all, by each of these sources, singly or together. GLW would like to withdraw the attribution to Dave Harrison. GLW stands by its story that this comment or comments similar in all respects were made by members of the National Left faction of the AMWU and GLW has confidence that the story is correct in every material respect.
