SYDNEY — More than 100 people attended a public forum on October 17 featuring Maria Eugenia Guerrero, sister of "Cuban Five" political prisoner Antonio Guerrero.

Guerrero is visiting Australia to raise public awareness of and strengthen the campaign for freedom for five Cuban men imprisoned in the United States for defending Cuba against terrorist acts carried out from Miami. The tour has been organised by the Communist Party of Australia.

Reflecting the growing public support for the international Free the Five campaign, the Sydney forum was also addressed by CFMEU NSW state secretary Andrew Ferguson; Maritime Union of Australia assistant branch secretary Paul McAleer; NSW Labor MP for Liverpool Paul Lynch; NSW Greens MLC John Kaye; former NSW Labor MLC Meredith Burgmann; Sudanese Communist Party representative Osama Yousif; and Macquarie University public law lecturer Gill Boehringer.

Guerrero will be addressing public meetings in Perth and Melbourne (see the Activist Calendar on page 23 for details). An interview with Guerrero is published on page 17. For more information about the Free the Five campaign, visit http://www.fiveheroes.blogspot.com.
