Fred Hollows Foundation dinner

SYDNEY — The late Dr Fred Hollows, gravel-voiced, irreverent champion of people's right to see, always loved a good food and wine nosh-up with friends.

Following this tradition, the Australia Vietnam Society is throwing a fundraising night out to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Proceeds will fund eye projects in Vietnam and for Aborigines in Australia.

It looks like the kind of night Fred would have approved of, with the promise of authentic Vietnamese food (catered by the deservedly well-known Old Saigon restaurant) and music, the Bangarra Dance Theatre of Australia doing their stuff, and limited-print photographs from Vietnam for sale.

A special feature of the evening will be the drawing of the raffle for a stunning prize: a return flight to Ho Chi Minh City with Malaysian Airlines. (Tickets for the raffle — only $5 each — can be purchased separately from the dinner as well as on the night.)

RSVP on 662 2024 (ring the same number for raffle tickets) or just turn up on the night to Burland Community Centre, 218-222 King Street, Newtown, Saturday, April 24, from 7 p.m. $30 or $15 concession.
