Forum: Bradley Manning and the Culture of Revenge.

Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - 18:30

Bradley Manning is the US Army soldier suspected of releasing thousands of documents to WikiLeaks, including the "Collateral Murder" Iraq helicopter attack video, State Department cables, and Guantánamo Bay files. These materials reveal a vengeful culture of war, incarceration, secrecy, and distortion of the truth. Bradley has himself become a target of this culture, harshly imprisoned and subjected to demonisation in the media. Sydney Solidarity for Bradley Manning, with the Sydney Peace Foundation and the Greens NSW, is presenting a forum to discuss the gulf between the principles of Bradley's apparent stand and the response to it from the US government and world media. The forum will be chaired by Greens MLC David Shoebridge, and the panel will be Prof Wendy Bacon (Australian Centre for Independent Journalism), Prof Stuart Rees (Sydney Peace Foundation) and Assoc Prof Ben Saul (Sydney Centre for International Law).

Parliament of NSW Theatrette, Macquarie St, Sydney.
