WOLLONGONG — On October 23, 20 women marched in freezing rain through the streets of the CBD to demand an end to violence against women.

The Reclaim the Night march ended in Crown Street Mall, where about 40 people heard speeches from women involved in anti-violence campaigns.

Socialist Alliance activist Marg Perrott spoke about the many forms that violence takes, from domestic abuse to starvation and warfare worldwide. "Women are the vast majority of those who suffer in these circumstances", she said.

Elder Aunty Joyce Donovan and Resistance member Chere Bowman also spoke. Bowman explained that 38% of women over 15 years old have experienced physical or sexual violence.
