The Ecuadorian government of Rafael Correa has withdrawn its ambassador to Egypt on August 14 amid bloody massacres of supporters of ousted Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi, Reuters said.
Protest camps by supporters of Morsi have been brutally crushed by the military, which ousted Morsi on July 3 after large protests. Al Jazeera reported at least 238 were killed nationanwide. The Muslim Brotherhood said the figure of was than 2000.
In a statement announcing the withdrawal of Ecuador's ambaswsador to Quito for consultations, Ecuador's foreign ministry said: "Following the coup d'etat which toppled President Mursi in July of this year, Egyptian society has been wrapped up in a climate of civil protest and repression on the part of the de facto government."
