Day two of the Darwin Refugee Rights Convergence began with a visit to the Northern Immigration Detention Centre. The NIDC is housed within a military compound and it is impossible to see any of the refugees inside unless they are protesting on the roof - an activity people have been punished for in the past.
Activists made contact with refugees inside by climbing a tree and showing signs saying "freedom" in Farsi and Arabic.
In another part of the complex, detainees were joining chants with activists outside.
