The NSW govt will shortly make a decision on oil & gas mogul Santos' proposed 850 CSG wells expansion in the Pilliga Forest nth west NSW. Methane released from these wells poses profound challenges to the Great Artisan Basin, the farms in the area that rely on its water, the health of the people who live in the area & the viability of the Pilliga Forest as one of 15 national biodiversity hot spots in Aust. Santos says the project will produce 70 petajoules of gas, "coincidentally" this is the same amount of gas Scot Morrison said NSW must commit to producing to receive $2 billion Fed funding for transition to renewable energy sources. Do we need gas to transition into renewables? Will more gas reduce domestic prices or increase Santos gas export? And most particularly what does another fossil fuel mining project mean to our efforts to keep global warming at 1.5? Come & listen & find out how to have your say
