Community forum against the incinerator

Gadigal/Sydney

Why

The NSW government is assessing a plan to burn 1.34 million tonnes of garbage every year in the world's largest incinerator at Eastern Creek. Twin 100 metre exhaust stacks will spew out pollution over Western Sydney threatening people's health, harming the environment and reducing property values in the area.

The proposal is 800m from Minchinbury, 1 km from Erskine Park and St Clair and only 5km from Prospect Reservoir.

Residents from surrounding suburbs including Michinbury, St Clair, Erskine Park, Colyton, Mt Druitt, St Marys, Blacktown and Penrith are encouraged to attend this important public forum to hear from experts and community members about the proposal and to register their opposition to this crazy proposal.

Major concerns

Incinerator emissions are a major source of toxic metals such as arsenic, mercury and cadmium and of more than 200 organic chemicals, including known carcinogens, mutagens, and hormone disrupters. Emissions also contain other unidentified compounds whose potential for harm is unknown. Since the nature of waste is continually changing, so is the chemical nature of the incinerator emissions and therefore the potential for adverse health effects
