Come to the Resistance conference!

"These are exciting times for Resistance", Emma Clancy, a member of the socialist youth organisation's national executive, told Green Left Weekly. "In the past year we have gone from strength to strength." Clancy is helping to organise the 2007 national conference of Resistance, which will be held at Sydney's Glebe Town Hall from July 5 to 8. The conference will involve "in-depth strategic discussions about all of the protest movements in Australia".

"Anyone with an interest in radical activism should come along — whether they're involved in queer liberation, the campaign against Work Choices, building solidarity with revolutionary Latin America, the anti-war movement or the environment movement. The conference will discuss revolutionary developments all over the world, with a particular focus on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's call to build 'socialism for the 21st Century'."

Resistance aims to use the conference as an opportunity to help build a protest against US President George Bush's visit to Sydney on September 8.

The conference will include a public meeting with international guest speakers, including a representative from new Indonesian left party Papernas, on July 5, and a special plenary session on the environment, which will look at revolutionary solutions to climate change, nuclear power and the water crisis. A cultural evening will be held on July 6 at the Glasshouse Bar at the University of Technology, Sydney.
