Chris Hani tour in Perth

By Stephen Robson

PERTH — The final leg of the Chris Hani Memorial tour included a number of successful functions. A memorial dinner attended by 190 people on October 5 heard both John Gomomo, president of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, and Thenjiwe Mthintso, MP and member of the African National Congress women's caucus.

Other speakers included TLC secretary Rob Meecham; long-time anti-apartheid activist Sheila Suttner and WA state MP Cheryl Davenport.

The following morning, more than 100 people attended a women's breakfast at the Pines Restaurant at Curtin University addressed by Thenjiwe Mthintso. A business breakfast organised by the Australia Asia Association and the South African Business Council was attended by 60-70 people interested in business links with South Africa.

President of the South African Communist Party Charles Nqakula and Gomomo met with the WA Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Watch Committee. A mayoral reception for the delegation was also organised by Subiaco Mayor Tony Costa.
