CFMEU legal challenge

Issue

The Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Union (CFMEU) is mounting a legal challenge to laws that require employers to dock the pay of workers who take part in "unauthorised" industrial action, according to the July 17 Age.

Under new workplace laws, employers would be forced to dock the pay of workers or face a fine of up to $30,000. The legal action follows the dispute at the brickworks in Craigieburn, Victoria, when workers' pay was docked when a union meeting at lunchtime overran by 20 minutes.
