Ceremony marks anniversary of Cuban hero's death

SYDNEY — A May 19 ceremony at Ibero-American Square marked the 114th anniversary of the death of Cuban national hero Jose Marti.

Cuban Consuls Nelida Hernandez and Ifrahim Miranda, the Communist Party of Australia's Hannah Middleton and Warren Smith from the Maritime Union of Australia took part in the event.

Miranda said that Marti lives in the Cuban people's struggle against the US blockade against the island nation.

A wreath was placed at the monument to Marti, who died on May 19 in 1895.
